Chapter 85: MN Brain Tumor 5K, Courtney and Curt’s Crew 2021

Hi friends,

It’s that time of year once again…time for the MN Brain Tumor virtual 5K! For those that have already joined our team, thank you! This blog will be similar to an email I sent today with more information on the upcoming event.

For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, please keep reading! Last year, shortly after my brain cancer diagnosis, I found an event called the MN Brain Tumor 5K. Due to the current state of the world, this event was virtual last May and will be virtual again this May.

As strange as it sounds, a virtual 5k is actually amazing. A virtual 5K is simply a regular 5K, although you can join the team from anywhere in the world, run/walk/swim/bike/dance a 5K at anytime you want, participate for FREE, and raise awareness for brain tumor research. The event is not timed or competitive, so this makes it a great personal fitness goal with no pressure to be in marathon-ready shape.

The really great thing about this particular event is that 100% of all financial donations go to the Musella Brain Tumor Foundation. None of your donations go towards costs of the event, unlike many other fundraising events out there. This means more money goes directly to help people like myself and Curt battle nasty brain bugs.

Last year, our team was called “Courtney’s Crew” and together we raised over $2000 towards brain tumor research. This year, Courtney's Crew" has expanded to "Courtney and Curt's Crew!" Curt is the husband of one of Courtney's good friends, Tiffany. Curt was welcomed into the brain cancer warrior club (very exclusive, invite only) this year, so we decided to join forces to create a larger team and help raise brain cancer awareness together. Welcome to the team, Curt's family and friends!

We are only 10 days away from the virtual MN Brain Tumor 5K, which takes place on May 15th, 2021.

Here are some other reminders for our team participants:

1) This is a VIRTUAL event. Courtney and her family will be running a 5K at 10am CST on May 15th. If you want to run “together,” plan to start then.

2) Some of you may have ordered T-shirts. If you are out of state, you should have received an email with delivery instructions. If you are in MN, you should have received  pick-up instructions. If you did not order a T-shirt, no worries! Feel free to wear last year’s “Courtney’s Crew” shirt or any other GREY shirt. Grey is the color of brain cancer (it is highly boring, but I had no say in this choice).

3) This run is not timed. This is wonderful because Courtney is not a runner. I repeat, I am NOT a runner. So, why am I running a 5K, you might ask? Well, I’ll be running for a good cause, for a challenge, and because my legs can physically run (even if my mind doesn’t want them to) so I really have no excuse. For other non-runners, you are welcome to walk, swim, bike, or dance your way to a 5K.

4) This event is FREE. However, if you do decide to donate, I can assure you that 100% of your donation goes towards brain tumor research at a very reputable foundation, the Musella Brain Tumor Foundation.

5) Finally, let’s generate some TEAM spirit! If you are comfortable with it, please take photos in your grey gear on May 15th and email them to Courtney at courtney.burnett264@gmail.com or send via social media (Courtney is on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, links on home page).

Counting down!

Fondly, Courtney
