Chapter 98: MN Brain Tumor 5K. Here we go again!

MN Brain Tumor 5K 2020

Hi all,

Save the date: May 14th! It's time for one of my favorite brain tumor fundraising events of the year, the MN Brain Tumor 5K. I love this event because 100% of all funds raised go directly to brain tumor research. Not to marketing, advertising, clothing, event decorations, etc.

Like the past two years, this event will be virtual once again. This means you can join Courtney's Crew and walk, run, swim, dance, or yoga your way to a 5K at any time of the day on May 14th. Together in spirit, your commitment to join the team (with or without a financial donation) helps raise awareness for the very understudied and underfunded brain tumor community.

Fun (and terrible!) fact- there are currently over 700,000 people living in America alone with a brain tumor.

For those just meeting me, welcome to my blog! Here you will find some truth, some lessons, some sadness, some humor, and a whopping dose of reality. Or, my unique reality- one as a 31 year old living and working with incurable brain cancer.

Since I’ve met so many new and wonderful people recently, here a little intro:

I am a 31-year-old physician living (and dare I say thriving?!) with brain cancer. My brain tumor journey started in January of 2020 when I was studying medicine in Thailand. While there, I began to have strange neurological symptoms and ended up diagnosing myself with a brain tumor. Honestly, the story only gets crazier from there.

Even as a physician, a brain tumor diagnosis is confusing and terrifying. Throughout my journey, I've used writing as a way to cope with my unexpected new life with chronic, incurable illness.

You’ve found my blog: www.elephantlotusbraintumor.com

My memoir, Difficult Gifts: A Physician's Journey to Heal Body and Mind, can be found on this website (under “Difficult Gifts”) or anywhere books are sold.

I loved participating in the MN Brain Tumor 5K in 2020 and 2021. With friends and family around the world, we raised over $5000 over the past 2 years for brain tumor research and had fun in the process.

Let's spend another beautiful, spring day walking/running together in spirit raising money for brain tumor research to battle this disease together! All money raised goes directly to brain tumor research.

PS. There may be some new blogs since my previous readers have last looked. I used to have an automated email list which malfunctioned and my tech skills are subpar. After some self-taught coding lessons, I think I’ve solved the glitch. We will see!

There is also now a way to subscribe to my mailing list on the home page of this website. I will only send infrequent emails with new blogs, books sales, and other important updates.

Fondly,

Courtney
